A man has been arrested after a woman was the victim of a serious sexual assault in Leeds city centre early this morning.
It is reported that the woman was attacked in a tent in St Peter's Square, a stones throw from Leeds Bus Station. A 26-year-old has been taken into custody, where he remains at this time, on suspicion of rape. West Yorkshire Police said a scene guard erected at the scene was to allow for forensic examinations to take place. The police said that the scene guard has now been removed and their enquiries into the incident are ongoing.A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "At 12.24am today, police received a report of a serious sexual assault on a woman that had occurred in a tent in St Peter’s Square in Leeds city centre.
"A scene was put in place in St Peter’s Square to undergo forensic examination but has now been removed. Officers from Leeds District Safeguarding Unit are continuing enquiries."
