A woman whose pit bulls attacked and killed an 89-year-old woman pleaded guilty earlier this month to unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog, but she will avoid jail time if she completes the conditions of her agreement with prosecutors.
After the first year, she may only have one dog, weighing less than 20 pounds, in the house for a two-year period, Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Brionna Boatright said., Boatright said.
Mary Gehring, 89, and her 12-year-old grandson were attacked by the two dogs Sept. 14 in the 15000 block of West First Avenue in Golden. Gehring was taken to a hospital, where she later died, while her grandson was flown to Children’s Hospital Colorado.
