Andrews’ trial began Tuesday before Jefferson County Circuit Judge Kandice Pickett and ended Friday afternoon with a verdict of not guilty. Andrews’ attorneys, Emory Anthony and Moses Stone, successfully argued his client shot Hollis in self-defense.“The deputy district attorneys worked hard, along with the law enforcement, to place the evidence in front of the jury and they decided it wasn’t enough,” said Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr. “These cases are not easy but we respect the jury’s verdict.” Officers discovered the shooting took place in the 200 block of Third Avenue S.W., which is University Crossing apartment. The same complex was the scene of a fatal shooting just eight days ago. Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. When they arrived, they encountered distraught citizens who were telling them that a woman had been shot and was being taken by private vehicle to Princeton Baptist Medical Center.The hospital was in the process of having the victim transferred to UAB Hospital. but she died before that move took place. She was pronounced dead at 7:37 p.m. Officers discovered the shooting took place in the 200 block of Third Avenue S.W., which is University Crossing apartment. Police said there had been a verbal altercation between multiple people throughout the day, and that is what led to the shooting.Hollis, one of eight children in a tight-knit family, was an avid basketball player for most of her life, and a graduate of Midfield High School. About a year before her death, Hollis became a barber and in doing so, had found her passion, her family said.
