A Berea woman was defrauded of $2,000 through an internet scam, which she reported to police on Oct. 30.

BEREA , Ohio – A Waterbury Drive woman was defrauded of $2,000 through an internet scam, which she reported to police on Oct. 30.

The woman called the number and spoke to a man who said he was a U.S. Federal Reserve agent. He told her that $6,000 had been withdrawn from her bank account to buy child pornography. The man instructed the woman to buy six $1,000 gift cards at Lowe’s, then give him the card numbers. Then he would reimburse her the $6,000 she had lost.

The woman called the fraudster and provided him the numbers of the two gift cards. He then told her to withdraw $35,000 in cash from her bank account, saying that another federal agent would pick up the money in person.The woman withdrew the cash but no one arrived at her house. She was then instructed to send the money by mail.
