Kirsty Hawes was told she couldn't fly despite her passport not expiring till March 2024.
A holiday-maker has been left in tears after she lost her £1,050 dream break because of Brexit passport rules. Kirsty Hawes had booked an all-inclusive holiday to Mallorca, Spain with her best friend through TUI.
According to Wales Online, Brits could previously travel up to including the expiry date on their passports. But since leaving the EU, UK passport holders are now required to have a passport which was issued within the last ten years. She wants to see travel companies change their booking pages including the date of issue for the passport to flag up passports that would be invalid. Kirsty said: “They took our passports and said you can’t fly.
They turned up at Luton airport at 3.30pm on August 16 2023 ready for their flight but when they went to drop their bags off Kirsty was told she couldn’t fly.Kirsty tried to get a temporary passport but was left gutted when she realised that the earliest appointment was in London in two weeks.
