A woman was killed in a crash on I-20 near Matlock Road after her 2006 Ford Mustang stalled and came to rest sideways across two lanes. Police believe the woman got out of her car and was standing in a lane of traffic when she was struck by a 2024 Toyota Tundra. The truck's driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers responded shortly after 11:30 p.m. to reports of a crash involving a car and pickup in the westbound lanes of I-20 near Matlock Road.
A 2006 Ford Mustang and 2024 Toyota Tundra were at the scene, as well as a woman who was lying unresponsive in the roadway, police said.Investigators determined, with the help of information from witnesses, that the woman was driving the Mustang when it appeared to have stalled out and was sitting sideways across two lanes when the crash occurred, police said.
Police believe the woman got out of her car and was standing in a lane of traffic when she and the car were struck by the pickup. The truck’s driver was taken to the hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening. “Based on the conditions at the time and position of the Mustang, investigators do not believe the driver of the Tundra was able to see the car prior to colliding with it,” officials wrote in the release.A portion of all westbound lanes of I-20 were closed for about four hours while crews worked to clear the scene but were reopened ahead of Wednesday morning commuter traffic.
