ICYMI: A jury on Wednesday convicted a 19-year-old woman of aggravated murder and other charges in the fatal New Year’s Eve carjacking of off-duty Cleveland police officer Shane Bartek.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A jury on Wednesday convicted a 19-year-old woman of aggravated murder and other charges in the fatal New Year’s Eve carjacking of off-duty Cleveland police officer Shane Bartek.

“At every crossroad where she could have turned her life around, she declined that opportunity,” O’Malley said. “She was a terrorist on our streets, and, for our community’s sake, she is now going to face the music for all the crimes she committed over those several months.” “Our hearts and prayers go out to the Bartek family as they had to relive that horrible night,” said Jeff Follmer, the president of the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association. “We thank the judge and the jury for the conviction of McLoyd.

Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Kevin Filiatraut argued that video of Bartek’s killing showed McLoyd fire twice in the split-second that he went for the gun. Six days earlier, at about 4 p.m. on Christmas Day, two people in COVID-19 face coverings robbed a man unloading his car as he moved into the building. One of the people involved wore similar clothing as the person involved in Bartek’s slaying.
