This is the the fifth gun incident that TSA officers have caught at HIA's security checkpoints in 2023.
Transportation Security Officers at Harrisburg International Airport detected this weapon in a passenger's carry-on bag on June 4. A Pennsylvania woman was found with a loaded handgun in her carry-on bag at a Harrisburg International Airport security checkpoint on Sunday, according to authorities.
Transportation Security Administration officers said they discovered a .380 caliber handgun during security screening. The firearm was loaded with a chambered round, police said. “As the summer travel volume continues to rise, these types of incidents present a danger to our dedicated workforce, and the surrounding public,” said TSA Deputy Federal Security Director Don Weston. “We encourage all travelers to know the exact location of their firearm at all times and to pack their luggage starting with a completely empty bag to ensure there are no prohibited items enclosed.”
