HOUSTON - A heartbreaking discovery in Houston days after Hurricane Beryl slammed into the city and knocked out power to millions.Authorities suspect she died from the sweltering heat. Debris from Hurricane Beryl lines the street outside the sixties era condo complex which is surrounded these days by big, nice, newer homes."It's dangerous needless to say," said resident Chesley Krohn. As we interviewed Chelsey, Houston Fire showed up along with an EMS crew, rushing to an upstairs unit where saving a life was no longer an option.Like a few others, the woman who was not terribly old, but did have health issues, stuck it out over the last week in the sweltering heat. "She's renting from my daughter, so I came to check on her and she didn't answer so, therefore, I unlocked the door and found her you know, it's just been hot and miserable and I'm just sick of this you know? I'm just sick of it," said neighbor Pat Baker."It makes me sad I mean, it makes me sad she was up here in the heat like that," said neighbor David Duffield. Reports say CenterPoint contractors showed up at least twice in as many days after repeated calls from neighbors. The property manager said that late Tuesday afternoon, the power was finally back on. The power company finally repaired a transformer to get the electricity back on at the end of a very trying day.
