POLK COUNTY, Fla. - A woman said she was forced to sell her home after her property tax soared 174%.said she had purchased her dream home in Polk County, Florida last year in May. Per the outlet, however, her property tax soared 174%, from $2,700 a year to $4,700. The hike made it too expensive for Ransom to continue living at the home, according to The Daily Mail, and forced her to put the property back on the market.
Ransom was left shocked, however, when her property tax soared 174%, which meant she would have to pay around $4,700.Florida homeowners are assessed for property tax on the first of January each year. The assessment is based on the property's size, location, condition and market conditions.Ransom told WFLA that she had no choice but to re-sell the home.
