A homeless woman and her dog got trapped in theLos Angeles River on Monday, March 28, and while the woman was quickly brought to safety, the spooked dog broke free and waded into the rushing river, sparking a dramatic, nearly 90-minute rescue effort.

A dog that got away from its owner in Van Nuys is finally rescued out of the LA River after being carried nearly 6 miles from Van Nuys to Studio City. On his trip he bit an LAFD firefighter who was lowered from a helicopter and a man who jumped into the river to rescue it. In the end the animal was grabbed near CBS Studios near Colfax Avenue and Ventura Boulevard by firefighters and Animal Rescue officers on Monday, March 28, 2022.

A dog that was swept close to 5 miles down the swift-moving LA River is hauled up the wall of the river after members of LAFD’s Swift Water Rescue Team and from the Department of Animal Services were able to corral the animal. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported the woman and the dog were spotted in the water near the Sepulveda Dam just before 2:15 p.m., according to the department’s Margaret Stewart.

Rescue crews staged at various locations along the river, but the dog was pushed by the rushing river downstream through Studio City.
