The fatal collision was reported Sept. 22 on Capitol Avenue near Berryessa Road.

SAN JOSE – A woman who was involved in a series of hit-and-run collisions last week in the South Bay has died, according to police. The death marked the 50th fatal collision and 52nd traffic death of the year on city streets. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the woman’s identity once it has been confirmed and her next of kin has been notified.

The woman was driving a large pickup truck and towing a trailer loaded with two other trucks on the afternoon of Sept. 22 when she was involved in three hit-and-run collisions over the course of an hour in Milpitas and San Jose, according to police. Police said the woman was driving southbound on Capitol Avenue, south of Berryessa Road, about 4:30 p.m. when she drifted to the right and sideswiped a parked minivan. The pickup then left the roadway and hit a tree head-on. The trailer, meanwhile, jackknifed and one of the trucks it was carrying broke loose and rolled on top of the pickup.

The driver was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, according to police.
