A woman convicted of breaking Covid rules for attending the vigil for Sarah Everard said the redacting of Boris Johnson’s WhatsApp messages relating to the protest was a “punch in the face” joeduggan1 reports

And she insisted Mr Johnson must be fully investigated, it was revealed police are probing possible further breaches of regulations at Downing Street and: “One thing people kept saying and now I completely agree is one rule for them and another for us and that’s completely how it feels here.

“This kind of just proves the contrast. It’s heartbreaking. And I don’t want that, I don’t want it to be this massive gap. I don’t want to not trust people in government. It’s a punch in the face.

“It was a really scary experience because it felt like there were these huge men grabbing my arm. I’ve got handcuffs on me, as if we’ve done something super criminal.“It just felt like an overreaction. I was taken to the van and started crying. There was the event itself and obviously that had a lot of consequences because I have got experience of domestic abuse, so it just kind of mimicked that experience.

She and others had vowed to challenge their convictions before the CPS confirmed that the charges would be “discontinued”. But she said receiving a criminal record had made her feel “small and helpless” and has shattered any faith she had in the police. An earlier report by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services concluded that the Met had “acted appropriately” when dealing with the event.
