When she is given her mandated release on May 27, Leya Ann-Marie Paul will have to live in an approved halfway house for at least a year.
Paul must live at an approved halfway house — a structured living environment with support, supervision and programming — for the first year after her release. Her sentence expires on May 21, 2025.

During her first year in prison, Paul received 22 institutional charges related to assaulting inmates and staff, possessing prohibited items, disruptive behaviour and damaging government property, the board noted. One incident involved a group assault on another inmate. She has been transferred twice and is currently being reassessed for maximum security after assaulting a correctional officer.
It indicated there have been glimmers of positivity and motivation throughout Paul’s programming, but every time she tries to follow her correctional plan, she quickly returns to negative behaviour.“Unfortunately, your level of accountability and motivation levels have been reduced to low from moderate at intake. You are no longer engaged in your correctional plan and continue to present as having a low reintegration potential,” the board said, based on CSC information.
