Monday, June 8, 2026 10:21PMA woman walking home in Arlington Heights said she was attacked by a male bicyclist Sunday night, police said. The incident occurred at about 11:15 p.m. near Lake Arlington in the area of Windsor Drive and Jonquil Circle.
An 18-year-old woman said she was walking home from a friend's home when a male bicyclist approached her and asked for her name, police said. SEE ALSO:The woman fought off the attacker and was able to flag down a motorist to call for help, police said. Police say the suspect took off on Windsor toward Palatine Road. They're asking residents and businesses in the area to check their surveillance cameras.
The suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall man with a muscular build and long braided hair with circular-framed glasses. The woman had non-life-threatening injuries, police said, but was hospitalized with bruises to her face.
"Right now the investigation is pointing to this being a just vicious, unprovoked attack," Arlington Heights Deputy Police Chief Greg Czernecki said. "That's unsettling, totally. You know, like, for what reason? And, like, not even afraid that someone can catch him, not OK, very unsettling," Agnieszka Mogelnicki said.
"It really says a lot about the risk we take at any time. You could be at the wrong place at the wrong time in Arlington Heights, no less, and this takes place. It's just, it's unconscionable," Adam Lasko said.
