Amber Nicole Herring, 25, was charged Monday with felony possession of a prohibited firearm-machine gun and theft of a firearm. She is being held on $30,000 bail for the two offenses. A woman rented the gun to shoot on May 5 under the name Bralynn Sampson, the general manager of the LoneStar Handgun Shooting Range said. The next day, the owner noticed that Sampson’s license was still there and a Heckler Koch fully automatic 9 mm MP5 gun was missing.That model is capable of firing about 800 rounds per minute.
Surveillance footage shows the woman leave the property through the lobby with the firearm and get into a white Ford Ranger waiting in the parking lot, according to an affidavit supporting Herring’s arrest. During the investigation, deputies learned that Bralynn Sampson died in December 2022. When they researched Sampson’s family members, they found Herring’s social media profiles and learned that she is Sampson’s sister. Also, she matched the description of the woman in the range’s surveillance footage, the affidavit said, and has several distinct tattoos on her chest and arms that matched those seen in the footage.
