DEMING, New Mexico - A hi-tech system led to the arrest last week of a mother on kidnapping charges out of San Antonio in New Mexico.
Qwaunice Tippitt, 31, was arrested on Nov. 16, along with Charles Jones, 32, at a Loves Travel Center in Lordsburg, New Mexico. She was wanted out of Bexar County on kidnapping charges, after she took her five biological children out of the state. New Mexico State Police said they were able to track Tippitt down using the Automatic License Plate Recognition system, which authorities said "assisted officers in narrowing down the time, location, and direction the vehicle was last seen."
Officers tracked her vehicle down to the truck stop where she was taken into custody without incident. “ Cases like this one highlight the critical importance technology is playing in helping New Mexico State Police combat crime and protect the public,” said New Mexico State Police Chief Troy Weisler. “New Mexico is safer as a result of the investments made in our agency over the past several years and we will continue to use innovative technologies to protect the public.”
