Tiffany Washington claims she was sexually assaulted by a respiratory therapist at St. Bernard Hospital in Chicago. She alleges the assault occurred during a scheduled treatment and that hospital staff failed to respond to her cries for help. Washington is demanding justice and accountability from both the therapist and the hospital.
Chicago police are investigating a sexual assault allegation against a respiratory therapist at St. Bernard Hospital in Englewood. Tiffany Washington, a 46-year-old patient with a history of asthma treatment at the hospital, claims that on January 27th, the therapist sexually assaulted her during a scheduled respiratory therapy session. Washington alleges that the therapist, after taking his pants down, forced her hand onto his genitalia.
She said she attempted to escape but was pushed into a bathroom and locked inside, where the assault continued. Washington states that after the therapist left, she screamed for help and called for nurses, but no one responded until she demanded to see a hospital manager. She alleges that the manager dismissed her claims and made it seem like she was lying. Washington eventually called the police and was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital for a rape kit. She is confident the DNA evidence will match the therapist. She is speaking out publicly to demand accountability from both the therapist and St. Bernard Hospital, seeking prosecution of the therapist and an admission of wrongdoing from the hospital, particularly from the manager who allegedly failed to take her seriously. In a written statement, a spokesperson for St. Bernard Hospital confirmed that they are cooperating with the Chicago Police Department's investigation and taking immediate steps to investigate the situation. They also stated that patient safety is their top priority. However, the spokesperson could not disclose if the employee has been placed on leave while the investigations are ongoing. The hospital declined to provide any further details beyond the written statement.
