They even suggested it 'may have been caused by an STI'

A woman who was admitted to A&E 20 times a year because of heavy period and would lose consciousness due to the pain was actually living with a a hidden and devastating condition

Starting to believe it was all in her head, Hannah, who is a children & young people's domestic abuse practitioner with charity Talk, Listen, Change, began to see a CBT therapist. And it was only when she lost 10kg in the space of two weeks because of her digestive symptoms - which saw her vomiting every time she ate - that doctors began to take her seriously.

She said: "I remember the surgeon coming out to see me after my first surgery. She confirmed I had endometriosis and said it was one of the worst cases she had operated on and that I was riddled with it. In the hope of raising awareness of the condition and the impact it has on the lives of over 1.5 million people in the UK, Hannah signed up to take part in a project called Endomorphosis this Endometriosis Action Month. The creative venture, run by Cabasa Carnival Arts, saw ten women from the north west who are living with endometriosis turn their bodies into canvases.

"Endometriosis is a whole-body disease, both physically and mentally, so I wanted to create a project which represented that. By delivering this project myself as an artist and painting a group of women who have been on a similar journey and seeing them transform was even more powerful than I could have imagined

"The whole experience was raw, at times quite emotional but overall it was amazing. There were some tears shared but also a lot of giggles when it came to stripping off and baring all. I felt a sense of power too, it was an incredible experience that I'll never forget."
