A federal jury found a North Texas woman guilty Wednesday after she was accused of helping her former fiance, Andrew Beard, plot the killing of his ex-girlfriend over a custody battle.

Burkett was slain Oct. 2, 2020, as she arrived at the Carrollton apartment complex she managed.In the weeks before the slaying, Elkins went with Beard to a sporting goods store, where he bought a black rainsuit, and to another store, where he bought shotgun shells and a knife. Elkins was accused of buying dark makeup from a drug store, the attorney’s office has said.
In indictment papers, Elkins is accused of remaining at Beard’s home with the child he had with Burkett, reportedly in an attempt to establish an alibi for him. The attorney’s office has said Elkins falsely told police the Beard was home with her during the time of the slaying.
