PUTRAJAYA: It will be a special Chinese New Year for 78-year-old Ker Geok Lan, who will be celebrating the festivities as a Malaysian for the first time.
This is because Ker will be able to own a blue MyKad after finally getting her citizenship approval letter following a six-year wait."This will be the first time I will be celebrating Chinese New Year with my family as a Malaysian," she said when met shortly before receiving her citizenship approval letter from Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail at a ceremony at the National Registration Department on Monday .
Ker, from Klang, was born in Perak without proper records and later settled down in Klang where she had four children. "I used to worry a lot about his future education and I am relieved that I will be able to enrol him in school," the 44-year-old housewife said.
