Mercedes has rubbished claims that James Allison has returned to a more hands-on role to help the team with its recent F1 struggles.
in 2017 and after four years at the helm of the design department, he stepped back from daily duty to occupy the more overarching role of chief technical officer.
Speaking exclusively with Motorsport.com, when asked if Allison was taking an active role in upgrading the W14, Wolff said: “No, he's not really involved. Faced with the suggestion that the team might have been tempted to parachute Allison in to assist his successor Mike Elliott, Wolff continued: “It's not one person always in an organisation.
“James, for sure, as a technical director in the past, has a big record and is a people's person. He's somebody that is still very important for the organisation.”The Mercedes technical team has been subject to steady turnover throughout its championship-winning pomp., while former chief aerodynamicist Eric Blandin switched to in-form Aston Martin in 2021.
