Jerry Easter II, a prized 2025 point guard from Ohio, holds a scholarship offer from Ohio State.
“All the hard work that we put in is paying off.” Easter II landed his first scholarship offer after sixth grade. That one came from Bowling Green, and as he continued to develop he added more. He has been ranked as the nation’s top prospect in his class by various websites along the way but is currently outside ESPN’s 25-man rankings for his class and is unranked by 247Sports.
As those websites update their databases in the coming months, Easter II figures to be included. Described as a true point guard by his father, Easter II is fully healthy after suffering a broken right wrist during a late-January game. Even with the injury, Easter II was named conference player of the year. “That game he dunked on somebody,” his father said. “You know how in the Matrix he figures out what he can do? always knew what he could do, but that game that he got hurt in, he just figured it out. He can get to the hole whenever he wants, and he did it. That game, about three more plays after that he got hurt. It took a few months to get back but he’s back full like it never happened.” The Ohio State offer was announced Sept. 17 and came via a FaceTime call from Buckeyes assistant coach Jake Diebler during a workout. Diebler said Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann wanted to talk with Easter II, his father and his coach. “We’re all sweating because we was working out, and the head coach talked to us and said I see you guys practicing and want to let you get back to practice, but we wanted to extend an offer out to you,” Easter I said. “We started going crazy. That was a big day.” UCLA, Arizona State, Toledo, Vanderbilt and others have also offered. The Overtime Elite league has, too, but Easter I said they turned down an offer of $800,000 to reclassify to the 2024 class and bypass the college route because their family believes in pursuing an education. Plus, he said, his son wants to win a national championship.“Whatever college makes us feel home, I think that’s where we’re going to go,” Easter I said. “We love O-State, though. We’re definitely looking at O-State. My wife, she was all Michigan but since Michigan ain’t really come, she’s like, ‘Whoever’s got love for my baby, that’s who I’ve got love for.’ That’s how she feels now.”
