After separating from his wife and struggling with his confidence, the two-time All-Star began seeing a therapist.

Few pitchers were nastier than Martínez was between 2015-17, averaging 97 mph with his fastball and showing off a swing-and-miss slider. But Martínez in his first time speaking in a Giants uniform Monday shed light on a different issue that he believes was at the root of his struggles: mental health.“That’s what made me lose my confidence,” Martínez said. “Doubting I could get an out.”“He helped me overcome and straighten out the issues I had in my life and straighten out my life,” Martínez said.
