The New York Yankees and Houston Astros will begin a weekend series on Friday night at Minute Maid Park.
All four are expected to be in the Yankees’ lineup along with rookie shortstop Anthony Volpe, whose three-run, game-tying homer with two outs in the ninth on Thursday gave him 20 for the season to go with his 21 stolen bases. No Yankees shortstop before ever pulled off a 20/20 as a rookie, not even Derek Jeter.
Judge has been a friend, mentor and fan of Volpe all season. He’ll offer the same perks to the incoming Baby Bombers. Judge is particularly excited about Dominguez. He’s short and stocky, but he hits balls a country mile like Judge, and from both sides of the plate. Judge has been hearing about Dominguez since the Yankees signed him out of the D.R. for $5.1 million in the summer of ‘19. He’s heard the crazy comparisons … Mickey Mantle, Mike Trout. When Judge finally got to see Dominguez play last spring, he was fascinated. In 11 spring games, Dominguez hit .455 with four homers.“I’m excited,” Judge said.
“It’s going to be fun, Judge said. “I’m excited for both those guys. Getting a chance to meet Austin a little bit and talking with him has been great. Same with Dominguez. He was pretty quiet when he was in spring training, but I think we’ll be able to open him up a little bit once he gets up here.”
