New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said work starts now to determine the fees and exemptions to enter Manhattan's central business zone south of 60th Street.
The next stage is ironing out the details — deciding what the congestion pricing fee should be, what credits and discounts should be extended and sifting through more than 100 requests made during last year’s public hearings for exemptions from the fee, Hochul and MTA officials said.
Federal Highway Administration officials approved a “Finding of No Significant Impact” after evaluating the 4,000-page environmental analysis of New York’s third congestion pricing plan proposed since 2007.Now it is up to two boards that have roughly 300 days to decide and approve what the final congestion pricing program will be and how much drivers will pay, said Hochul.
Congestion pricing would charge a toll to enter Manhattan south of 60th Street, that could range fromfor non-commercial passenger vehicles, that would provide toll credits for the three Hudson River crossings and other toll bridges and tunnels. Toll credits would lessen the congestion fee. In addition, that board has roughly 100 requests for exemptions to review, said Janno Lieber, MTA CEO to the media.“We should be ready to go in about 10 months,” Lieber said.
