Diversity, Equity and Inclusion offices, or DEI offices, are closing across state-funded universities after the passing of Senate Bill 17 ."Yes, they have done away with the DEI offices. But you know, having this type of backlash against our community is nothing new," Texas Pride Impact Funds Program Director Robert Salcido Jr. said.

"Through grassroots activism, community centers, social media campaigns and collaboration with local, state and national advocacy groups," Salcido Jr. said."If someone has one safe space in their life, just one where their name and their pronouns are used that reduces suicide ideation by 29% that's a huge number," Chun said.

"We really feel for all of our college folks that are impacted and beyond. The best thing I think we can do is work in collaboration with universities in whatever way that's possible," Alcocer said.
