Spurs point guard Tre Jones teamed with the NBA to give $25,000 to The Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas.
San Antonio Spurs guard Tre Jones walks a labyrinth with Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas of Uvalde director Brenda Faulkner on Tuesday. Jones donated artwork for the center and announced a $25,000 donation to the center. Before the tour, Jones visited with children at a summer camp for those affected by the 2022 Robb Elementary School massacre.
Jones' comments came after he toured the construction site for the Children's Bereavement Center on Tuesday in this town just 86 miles west of San Antonio, where an 18-year-old gunman armed with an AR-15 rifle slaughtered 19 children and two adults at Robb Elementary School on May 24, 2022. This isn't the first time Jones, who is a restricted free agent after enjoying a breakthrough season in 2022-23, has come to Uvalde's aid.
"Listening is definitely number one," Jones said when asked how he approaches the difficult task of trying to uplift the girls' spirits."Let them take the lead. They are always filled with so many questions and so many different thoughts and emotions, so I just try to let them be kids and ask all the questions they have.
Kristina Hernandez, chief development officer for the Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas, said she was impressed by Jones' level of sincerity in interacting with the kids.
