'With creativity you can propose a new future': Maria Grazia Chiuri reveals the making of her Dior Spring 2020 collection.

’s vision into a reality. The collection, inspired by the life of Christian Dior’s sister, Catherine, is one of modernized femme, women clad in layers of mesh and tulle, wrapped up in rose prints and carnations. Speaking in the ateliers, Chiuri told, “I think that Catherine was a really feminist woman. Feminist means that you choose for yourself…that is an important message for all women: to believe in yourself and to think about your future.

To make that message a reality, Chiuri relies on her ateliers and team at the Dior HQ. Rey, the chief of the ready-to-wear atelier, interprets each and every sketch with the atelier’s. It’s these master tailors, patternmakers, and technicians who are tasked with figuring out exactly how to make heavy embroideries capture the light-as-air spirit of the collection. Some, like Pascal Coppin, have worked at Dior perfecting this skill for more than 15 years.

On the show day Chiuri’s vision comes together with a set by Coloco—all the plants used will be planted in Paris in the coming weeks—and a cast of cool-girl models who embody the spirit of a “modern Catherine Dior.” Watch Vogue Runway’s exclusive making of this collection, here.
