It's been a wild first 113 games for the Mariners, but as we head into this new week and dive full board into the home stretch, here's what we're watching.
Football's in the air, the sun is setting closer to 8:30 p.m. than 9 p.m. and Fleet Week has come and gone.Whether you like it or not, it does mean we're closing in on what promises to be something dramatic: the American League West pennant race.
Make no mistake, that is important, but the reality is there's something just as important that on the surface isn't really able to be measured. In this case, I'm looking at the Mariners' recordCertainly, this is not to say he's been a one-man show. Far from it. Baseball's the one game where one event or one matchup can change the trajectory for a club. Is this it for the Mariners? There's no question it's infused the club with a dash of energy and enthusiasm.
But here's the thing: without Julio Rodriguez and J.P. Crawford, and while dealing with some bullpen injuries, theYes, you have to do that a lot more over the last 49 games, but the Mariners disproved the notion that they're faltering. How could they be when they just did that to the Phillies? A blowout win followed by a more patented extra-inning walk-off style win.
