PETALING JAYA: No foul play was detected during investigations into the fire which gutted Wisma Jakel in Section 7 Shah Alam near here, says the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department.
Its state deputy director Wan Md Razali Wan Md Ismail said investigations into the blaze were now in the final stage.
"No criminal elements had been detected at this stage. We are confident that we will be able to complete the investigation soon,” he told reporters at the Chinese New Year Fire Safety Campaign at a shopping centre in Damansara, here on Wednesday. The media previously reported that the leading textile store caught fire twice on Jan 1 and 3, involving estimated losses of almost RM100mil.
Commenting on the campaign, he said the Department had conducted spot checks at premises and locations to ensure public safety from any fire risk.He advised people who wanted to return to their hometown during the celebration to ensure their homes are secured and vehicles properly maintained.The CNY Fire Safety Campaign runs from Jan 2 to Jan 30. - Bernama
