There is a chance of snow and freezing rain during the Thursday morning commute, but temperatures will warm up to the mid-40s, changing all precipitation to persistent rain throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday morning’s commute could get slick across central Pennsylvania, as temperatures will remain cool enough to bring icier conditions while a major rainstorm moves into the area.

According to the National Weather Service, rain will hit the Harrisburg area as early as 6 a.m., which is also when it will still be cool enough to see snow and freezing rain. The icier conditions could remain in the area until around 10 a.m. Forecasts show temperatures warming up to the mid-30s by noon, and continuing to increase into the high-40s throughout the day.Rain will continue into Friday morning, when a cold front will come in and push the storm out of the area and drop temperatures 30 degrees by the afternoon, according to the NWS.

Southeast of Harrisburg, in the York and Lancaster areas, Thursday’s rain and wintry mix may hold off until 7 a.m., but otherwise is expected to taper off into persistent rain throughout the day. Just west of Harrisburg, including in Franklin and Fulton counties, a winter weather advisory is in place from 5 a.m. until 3 p.m. Thursday, according to the NWS service.Slippery road conditions are expected for Thursday morning’s commute, and the NWS, along with PennDOT and the Pa. Turnpike Commission, reminds drivers to adjust speeds to road conditions.
