Travel could be trickier as temperatures plunge below freezing and ice forms.
Meteorologist Ryan Dugger explains why the cold air we are seeing now will play a factor into how driving conditions will be once snow and ice moves in.DOTHAN, Ala. - Public officials are telling us not to drive during the winter storm that is on the way.“People should be off the roads by about noontime,” is how WTVY News4 Chief Meteorologist David Paul sees things.
He predicts snow will begin falling in the early afternoon and possibly remain persistent for several hours, which will cause driving conditions to deteriorate.WINTER STORM WARNING ISSUED As ice forms, driving becomes even more dangerous, with Alabama state troopers telling those in the projected path to stay home if possible.“We’ll probably have to do it unless things turn out better than we expect,” Chairman Brandon Shoupe said of the anticipated closures.
Other counties will monitor the situation closely, but there is little doubt that ice will become a problem on Tuesday and linger into at least Wednesday.
