A major winter storm is causing travel disruptions and hazardous conditions across the Eastern US.Heavy snowfall, ice, and freezing rain are impacting millions of people from the Ohio Valley to the mid-Atlantic. The storm also caused a lengthy delay for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who were stranded at Indianapolis International Airport.

Winter storm is moving east today from the Ohio Valley to the mid-Atlantic, producing heavy to moderate snow across states in the East and making travel hazardous. This morning, 62 million people are under winter alerts stretching from Illinois to southern New Jersey. In the central Plains, 15 inches of snow could fall, the highest in a decade or more, with roads becoming impassable. Eastern Seaboard cities including Washington, D.C.

, could get 6 to 12 inches of snow, making things tough for commuters, with 2 to 4 inches expected across parts of the Ohio Valley and the central Appalachians. Ice and freezing rain will develop over parts of the Ohio Valley to the mid-Atlantic, ending by this evening. Dangerous travel conditions will develop over the region due to the storm and state officials have urged locals to avoid travel. Meanwhile in Kentucky, state police said dispatch received over 1,450 calls — a 70% increase compared to normal — from Sunday to Monday. Troopers also assisted nearly 300 stranded motorists since the storm started, according to Kentucky State Police. Meanwhile some areas of New York clocked over 6 feet of snow. Oneida County in central New York recorded 75 inches of snow, or 6.25 feet. Also in New York, Taberg recorded nearly 5.5 feet and Dolgeville hit 5 feet, according to the weather service's data. The Jacksonville Jaguars returned home early Monday after spending seven hours waiting through a winter storm on the tarmac at Indianapolis International Airport. The National Weather Service reported heavy snow — between 2 and 5 inches — freezing drizzle and wind gusts of up to 40 mph in central Indiana. The Jaguars (4-13) had hoped to get out of Indy before the worst of it, but their game against the Colts went to overtime and caused enough of a delay that players, coaches and staff got stuck. The Jaguars lost 26-23. Their charter flight finally was cleared to leave at 1 a.m. EST and landed in Jacksonville two hours late
