"As you are all aware, this forecast changed very quickly. Two days ago, forecast called for about an inch of snow. Yesterday morning, that was bumped up to 5 to 8 inches with a worst case scenario of 10 inches," he told NBC News. The city considered"the worst case scenario" when getting prepared for this winter storm, Iscol said. A winter weather advisory, which indicates that freezing rain or 2 to 4 inches of snow is in the forecast, was issued for areas of northern Virginia, the National Weather Service said. A winter storm warning, which indicates that at least 6 inches of snow is expected to fall in a 12-hour span, was issued for communities in Maryland and West Virginia, it said. For much of the region covered by the weather service's office in Sterling, Virginia — it calls it Baltimore/Washington — rain will transform into"heavy, wet snow," it said.
