Brace for a cold and windy Monday before a warming trend takes over.
- Spring’s brief visit is over. Winter has returned to the Wiregrass as we start the new work week with plenty of sunshine, but don’t let the bright skies fool you — it’s going to be cold and windy out there.
Expect sunny skies throughout the day, but temperatures will struggle to reach the upper 40s this afternoon. The real story is the wind. Northwest winds at 15-20 mph will make it feel even colder, especially if you’re heading out for the morning or evening commute. Coastal areas are under a Gale Warning until 9 a.m., with winds gusting up to 35 knots and seas occasionally reaching 10 feet.Temperatures will take a nosedive tonight, dropping into the middle 20s as winds finally calm down. If you have any sensitive plants or outdoor pets, bring them inside, and drip those faucets! By Tuesday, we’ll see mostly sunny skies and a slight warmup, with highs reaching the middle 50s.Here’s the good news — a significant warming trend is on the way. Wednesday will be the warmest day of the week, with partly sunny skies and highs climbing into the lower 70s. That’s a dramatic turnaround from today’s cold snap.A system will move in Thursday, bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms to start. The rain becomes more widespread Thursday night and early Friday morning, with a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Any lingering showers should wrap up early Friday morning, leaving us mostly sunny for the rest of the day with highs near 71°.We’ll dry out heading into the weekend, but it won’t be a dramatic cool-down. Saturday and Sunday will remain pleasant with partly cloudy skies and highs in the lower 70s. Lows will dip into the upper 40s and lower 50s.Download the WTVY News4 app to get alerts and stories the moment they are published. Available for FREE in theDaleville man dies in motorcycle accident
