The Gondola at Winter Park Resort reopened on Monday afternoon, two days after a malfunction stranded more than 180 people for several hours. A skier named Mike Wolf, who was stuck on the lift for over five hours with his wife and four others, said they felt safe and comfortable thanks to the communication and reassurance from ski patrol crews. Wolf, a lifelong skier at Winter Park, praised the professionalism of the ski patrol.
Jen Miller, a spokesperson for the ski resort, said the gondola functioned as intended by stopping when it detected a crack. The resort is investigating the cause of the crack, which occurred in a six-year-old part of the lift. All impacted skiers and snowboarders received two free lift tickets and $10 vouchers as compensation. Wolf said the experience led to forming new friendships with the other people trapped on the gondola
