A stray rain sprinkle or flurry is possible overnight, but otherwise dry with wind chills in the 20s early Wednesday.

After a wet Tuesday, drier weather has arrived for Long Island. Clouds are clearing into Wednesday morning and while most of the night is dry, a passing sprinkle or flurry cannot be ruled out. It will also be windy and cold overnight with the chance of running into a few icy spots on Wednesday morning as temperatures drop into the lower 30s.

Wind gusts will continue to be between around 20 to 35 mph. The gustier wind Tuesday evening after the rain ended helped to dry up the ground, but any water that does remain can refreeze overnight. That is why there is the chance for a few icy areas in the morning. Use caution walking or driving in case you do have some patchy black ice near you for the start of the morning commute Wednesday. Wednesday and Thursday will be breezy at times, quite cold and fairly dry other than a quick passing snow or rain shower or two as an arctic front arrives Thursday afternoon.In fact, our coldest air this week will be Thursday night into Friday. There is also still a slight chance for mixed light snow and rain showers between Friday evening and Saturday morning. A light coating of snow cannot be ruled out just yet for Friday evening. Better information on this chance will arrive Wednesday for Long Island. There is still about equal chance as of this evening of it remaining mostly dry. Next week looks unsettled at this time for Tuesday through the end of the week with a few scattered chances for mixed rain and snow showers.OVERNIGHT: Clouds gradually clear overnight. It will be a bit windy which will help dry the ground up. Wind: north-northwest 10 to 20 mph with some gusts near 30 mph. As temperatures fall into the low 30s overnight, patchy areas of ice can form early Wednesday morning. Please use caution. WEDNESDAY: Patchy icy areas early. Then, a mainly sunny to partly cloudy day. Highs around 41 degrees. Breezy and feeling more like the low to mid-30s in the afternoon. Lows near 29 degrees. THURSDAY: Partly sunny and breezy. A gusty passing snow or rain shower will be possible late-morning through early afternoon. Highs around 42 degrees. Much colder at night with lows near 18 degrees. FRIDAY: Sun gives way to clouds. Cold. Highs around 37 degrees. Some snow showers cannot be ruled out in the mid to late-evening hours. Lows near 27 degrees. SATURDAY: Watching a slight chance of mixed snow or rain showers in the morning. Otherwise, breaks of sun. Highs around 44 degrees. Lows near 29 degrees. SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Highs around 42 degrees. Lows near 22 degrees.TUESDAY: Partly sunny to mostly cloudy. Scattered snow and/or rain showers possible. Highs around 35 degrees. Lows near 28 degrees.
