Strong winds across Washington state left tens of thousands of residents without electricity Wednesday night as powerful gusts knocked down trees and damaged power lines in multiple counties.Utility providers reported that outages grew rapidly throughout the evening.
Around 5:30 p.m., roughly 3,000 customers were without power. By late evening, that number had climbed dramatically to more than 105,000 people statewide, according toreported that King County had the largest number of outages. Other impacted counties included Kitsap, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish, and Whatcom. In eastern Washington, thousands of residents in both Stevens and Spokane counties also lost electricity., trapping a person inside. Fire crews worked to rescue the individual after the tree toppled onto the vehicle near 1100 Lake Joy Road NE amid high winds.
