Windows 11 turns back the clock with the 'new' option to rip CDs to your computer

When was the last time you ripped a CD? Well, if you’re still in the mood to convert discs to digital music files, Windows 11 has got your back. Or, at least, it will have soon.

Microsoft is testing new versions of two Windows 11 apps with Insiders, volunteers who beta test new Windows features.Support for listening to CDs was only added to the Windows 11 Media Player in March. The new version being seeded with Windows Insiders ups the ante by letting users rip CDs. Media Player will let you rip CDs in the AAC, WMA, FLAC and ALAC formats, but MP3 is oddly left off the list without any explanation from Microsoft on its. Maybe the company is worried about customers uploading ripped MP3s to LimeWire?

The Media Player app was completely revamped for the release of Windows 11, which means it’s slowly re-adding features that were taken for granted in older versions of the software. The other Windows 11 app to benefit from a refresh is Camera. As well as getting a new look, the app is expanding its feature set. For example, it will now be possible to scan QR codes and barcodes with the software.
