Most of Utah's mountain resorts report that they have already received more than 2 feet of snow this week — and there's more coming.
Utah Department of Transportation crews completed another round of avalanche mitigation work in Little Cottonwood Canyon, which briefly closed the canyon to traffic again Tuesday morning. UDOT has temporarily closed the road multiple times over the past week because of the avalanche threat in the area, and it's possible future temporary mitigation-related closures will be put in place.
The next wave is expected to provide more snow all over the state Wednesday morning. While it begins to clear out later in the day across the northern half of Utah, it's forecast to linger a little bit longer in southern Utah, possibly into early Thursday morning. Communities along the Wasatch Front and north, into Cache Valley, may receive another few inches of snow by early Thursday. The Cottonwood canyons and other Wasatch mountain areas could receive another foot of snow or more, according to KSL weather models.
The National Weather Service advises people to use caution while traveling through mountain areas through the end of Wednesday.
