The Victorian gambling regulator said on Tuesday it was in the public interest for Crown to keep its Melbourne casino licence.
Crown Resorts will keep its licence to operate its flagship Melbourne casino, 18 months after it was disgraced by two scathing royal commissions and a state inquiry which found it failed to curb money laundering and terrorism across its three casinos for years.
Crown Resorts has regained one of its three casino licences three years after the company was disgraced by multiple state inquiries and a royal commission, which found extensive criminality across its former operations.It means the casino giant has passed its first regulatory test since it was bought by private equity behemoth Blackstone for $7.9 billion in 2022 and from June, Crown Melbourne will no longer operate under special manager Stephen O’Brien.
“Today, the commission is satisfied the systemic failings at Crown Melbourne are a thing of the past,” Thorn said.
