NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller says officers will leave 'nothing unturned' in the search for missing boy William Tyrrell's remains, but admits it could take weeks to find any answers.

NSW's top police officer says it could take "weeks and weeks" to sift through the 15 tonnes of soil removed as part of the search for William Tyrrell's remains on the Mid-North Coast.Police have searched less than 20 per cent of three sites around where William disappearedPolice officers and specialists in the coastal town of Kendall this morning pushed on with their search for William — who vanished in 2014 — despite poor weather conditions.

"We have taken 15 tonnes of soil and other pieces of evidence or potential evidence back for forensic investigation," Commissioner Fuller said. Officers, he said, had found several objects which would be "foreign to normal bushlands" which were being sent back for DNA testing in Sydney."If you think about 15 tonnes of soil being moved into a clandestine lab, there could be weeks and weeks of searching through that before we have any answers," Commissioner Fuller said.

The damage has now been cleaned up and the search has resumed but the focus will be on clearing undergrowth rather than trying to sift through sodden soil.
