The New Development Bank will host its 4th Annual Meeting from 31 March to 2 April at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, in Cape Town.

By the end of 2018, the bank approved 30 infrastructure projects with the total lending standing at 8 billion USD. Civil society groups, who have engaged with the NDB since the start of its operations in 2016, have voiced concerns regarding the way in which policies have been applied and implemented on projects.

Not enough attention has been given to South Durban communities who have expressed environmental and social concerns, including the lack of consultation with affected communities. A main concern by civil society has been the rather opaque approach in which projects have been identified and approved.
