TheFlash showrunner Eric Wallace considers whether the series will lead to any additional Arrowverse spinoffs in the near future: 'We’ve introduced a lot of characters over the last couple of seasons.'

The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace talks about whether or not there will be any Arrowverse spinoff shows if season 9 ends up being the last one for the long-running series. The Arrowverse has been one of The CW's biggest franchises since 2012 when Arrow premiered. Following Arrow's debut, the DC drama launched multiple other spinoff shows, including The Flash.

The Flash season 8 finale officially aired this week, wrapping up its 2-parter where Barry Allen took on the Negative Forces and Reverse-Flash. Not only did the Scarlet Speedster battle a leveled-up version of Eobard Thawne, but episode 20 of The Flash season 8 served as the end for the Reverse-Flash for the foreseeable future. The Flash finale also tackled Iris West-Allen's time-sickness once and for all.

"No, because you really don’t start looking at spinoffs until you think you’re not coming back, and I’m not thinking that way. [Laughs] Now, having said that, obviously…we’ve introduced a lot of characters over the last couple of seasons…I would say to the audience, if you have some characters that we have introduced in the last few years that you want to see in a spinoff, you should write to The CW.

It makes sense for an Arrowverse spinoff not to be the primary focus right now since they haven't even started working on The Flash season 9 yet. However, Wallace makes a good point that they have some new key players who would make for a good offshoot. Two of them are Nora and Bart West-Allen, a.k.a. XS and Impulse respectively, as they come from the future every once in a while to visit the past.

While The CW is in the midst of possibly being bought by Nexstar, time will tell what the Arrowverse's future will look like down the line. Despite being adjacent to the franchise, Superman & Lois confirmed this week that they aren't set on Earth-Prime, making The Flash the last "normal" Arrowverse show around.
