Nick Mohammed addresses whether Nate will be redeemed in Ted Lasso season 3. The Emmy Award-winning comedy series returned for its third and likely final season on March 15. The season 3 premiere begins with a new Premier League season on the horizon as the recently promoted AFC Richmond, coached by Ted Lasso, is predicted to finish last and be relegated once again.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Shortly after the Ted Lasso season 3 premiere, Mohammed talked to Deadline and answered one of the questions on viewers' minds – if Nate will be redeemed this season following his drastic turn from a lovable AFC Richmond assistant coach to a full-fledged villain. The Ted Lasso actor gave a thoughtful response, suggesting it will be up to each individual viewer to decide if they can forgive Nate for his betrayal and empathize with his actions.
There’s a lot of anticipation as to whether Nate is getting this redemption arc and all I’ll say is that it’s not up to me or even the writers. I think it’s more about the audience and their capacity for forgiveness. To some people. Nate’s betrayal at the end of Season 2 was the straw that broke the camel’s back and there’s no going back because he can’t re-write history. He did and said those things. Let’s say for the sake of argument he apologizes, gets on his knees and begs for forgiveness.
While it's possible Ted Lasso season 3 doesn't redeem Nate, which Mohammed suggests could happen, this would ultimately betray the show which is, at its heart, a feel-good and optimistic story, despite some dramatic tendencies. During the season 3 premiere, Nate is already starting to feel lonely and unhappy with his decision. This, combined with his toxic behavior, suggests his stint as West Ham United's manager is destined to end at some point.
