Six teams (Bears, Saints, Raiders, Jaguars, Jets, Patriots) have openings, potentially more. With playoffs starting, eight coordinators' postseason performance will impact their head coaching chances. BEN JOHNSON (Lions OC) is the top target, having been coveted for jobs the past two years. He could stay in the NFC North or take a team with a promising QB.
A strong playoff run by the Lions only strengthens his case. AARON GLENN (Lions DC) solidified his position as a top defensive assistant after clinching the NFC's No. 1 seed. Several teams have requested virtual interviews, and his strong connections make him a strong contender. LIAM COEN (Bucs OC) is a fast riser. His first year in Tampa has been remarkable, with the run game improving significantly and Baker Mayfield thriving. If the Bucs make a deep playoff run, Coen could be the next coordinator to get a head coaching job. TODD MONKEN (Ravens OC) has found consistent success with Lamar Jackson, and another strong playoff run could propel him to the Jaguars. BRIAN FLORES (Vikings DC) has prior head coaching experience with the Dolphins, making him stand out. A strong showing against the Rams would enhance his candidacy. VANCE JOSEPH (Broncos DC) also has head coaching experience, with the Broncos. If the Broncos upset the Bills and advance, Joseph's stock will rise. MATT NAGY (Chiefs OC) might not get much buzz despite the Chiefs' success. But if Kansas City wins another championship, teams will look to Nagy and Andy Reid's coaching tree. KLIFF KINGSBURY (Commanders OC) overcame a shaky period to lead the Commanders back to the playoffs. Another strong playoff run could land him another head coaching job.
