The fate of Alien: Earth season 2 is still uncertain, but if it does get canceled, it would continue one of the Alien franchise's biggest problems. The first season of Alien: Earth was considered a masterpiece by many.

It has 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, it expanded the Alien franchise through four new alien species, and it told a great story with some great action scenes. As great as it was, however, Alien: Earth also has its fair share of problems. For example, Alien: Earth highlights the problem with streaming shows having huge wait times between seasons. That's assuming it gets renewed, however. If Alien: Earth gets canceled instead, it could run into one of the Alien franchise's biggest problems. Alien: Earth's Fate After Season 1 Still Hasn't Been Decided The ending of Alien: Earth season 1 was open-ended and left the door wide open for the story to continue. Wendy and the Lost Boys seized Neverland Island, but they still have to escape Weyland-Yutani's invading forces. Despite that ending, the show hasn't yet been renewed or canceled. Right now, Alien: Earth is just a big question mark. Not even the creators of the series are sure if Disney and FX are going to renew it. As Alien: Earth creator Noah Hawley told Screen Rant, he thinks the final decision on Alien: Earth season 2 will be made sometime in November. But there is definitely a lot of creative preparation going on, and our hope and expectation is that we will hear some tangible news in the next month or so. Hawley also mentioned that he's already working on ideas for how to continue the plot of Alien: Earth, but the above quote is proof that Disney and FX still haven't made a decision on the series. It will likely be weeks until we even know if Alien: Earth season 2 is happening or not, let alone the months it'll take to actually write, film, edit, and market it before it can be watched. Alien: Earth Season 2 Not Happening Would Continue An Alien Problem If Alien: Earth season 2 doesn't get renewed, it'll continue a big problem Alien has had as a franchise for a while now. Since the beginning of Alien, the franchise has set up plot lines that never get resolved, and Alien: Earth's cancellation would only extend that trend. Instead of finding out what happens to Wendy, the Lost Boys, and the fight to control Earth, we'll be left with a cliffhanger. Again, this is a problem that has been around since the original Alien. It took 33 years for Prometheus to explain the Space Jockey seen in Alien. Later movies only got worse with this problem, too. We still don't know what happened to Morse after Alien 3, and we still don't know what happened to Earth in Alien Resurrection. Books, comics, and video games begin to answer these questions, but the main movies don't. The worst offenders, of course, are Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. Prometheus and Covenant were supposed to be the first two installments of a prequel trilogy, yet Ridley Scott's plans were scrapped after Covenant underperformed at the box office. As a result, we still don't know what happened to David after Covenant, or what happened to all the Xenomorphs and colonists he experimented on. Alien has a bad habit of starting stories and not seeing them through to the end, and Alien: Earth's potential cancellation would only make it worse. Noah Hawley has plans for multiple seasons, and the first season of Earth was clearly building up to a longer, larger story. If it gets canceled, Alien: Earth will just be another beginning with no end for the Alien franchise. There's No Reason Not To Renew Alien: Earth For Season 2 The worst part of all the uncertainty surrounding Alien: Earth season 2 is how simple this decision should be. Alien: Earth was a critical darling, it had a great story, it drew in 9.2 million viewers to its premiere , and it served as a great addition to the ever-popular Alien franchise. On paper, it seems like an absolute no-brainer to renew it for a second season. Granted, no one but Disney and FX knows the financial details surrounding Alien: Earth. The show was clearly expensive to produce, what with its all-star cast, high-tech settings, and huge VFX demands. Disney and FX also have to weigh the cost of producing a new season with the amount of viewers the show can actually pull in, which we simply can't estimate as viewers. Setting aside the financial aspects, however, there should still be more than enough reason to renew Alien: Earth for a second season. Alien is one of the most recognizable and popular science fiction franchises out there, and a TV show capitalizes on that. As previously mentioned, there's also plenty of setup for a second season of Alien: Earth that shouldn't go to waste. 188 8.7/10 8/10 Alien: Earth 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed TV-MA Drama Horror Science Fiction Thriller Release Date August 12, 2025 Network FX, Hulu Directors Dana Gonzales, Ugla Hauksdóttir, Noah Hawley Writers Bob DeLaurentis 10 Images Close Cast See All
