Former Rep. Will Hurd described a potential rematch between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump as a"rematch from hell."
Hurd, 45, made the comments during an appearance on NBC's"Meet the Press." The moderate Republican bashed Trump and cast doubt on the certainty that he would be the 2024 Republican nominee, despite his lead in the polls."When you talk to individual voters, they care about our role in the rest of the world. And so... don't be discouraged. The reality is two-thirds of Americans want somebody other than Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
He went on to elaborate as to why he believes Republicans are ready to move on from Trump, despite his major lead in the polls. "Even people that like Donald Trump and were proud to vote for him think that Donald Trump has a lot of baggage that's going to hurt Republicans' chances in 2024," Hurd said."A lot of those voters believe that Donald Trump's mouth gets in the way and prevents us from talking about issues that matter. You said this at the top of your show; the GOP lost the House in 2018. We lost the Senate and the White House in 2020.
Hurd is widely seen as a possible moderate Republican alternative for president, a possibility he has hinted at several times. During his appearance on"Meet the Press," he said that he would make his decision on whether to run"very soon," sometime before Memorial Day.
