Companies are working on robots that can recharge your EV all by themselves. But will these robots ever become commonplace?
Apr 3, 2023NaaS Technology reveals a charging robot, which can automatically locate charging ports on EVs and recharge them.
Robots of this type could be remotely ordered to find a specific EV and recharge it while the owner is away. Several automakers, including VW and Hyundai, are working on charging robots as a convenience and accessibility feature., with a number of companies predicting this mode will be a popular way to recharge your EV in the future, whether at home or at work. While inductive charging has certainly secured a role for itself in some settings, the focus is now onNaaS Technology, which builds charging stations, has revealed the latest such robot that doubles as a mobile power source.
Perhaps the trickiest part of the process is finding and manually opening the charging ports of a variety of EVs, as there is little in common between various vehicle brands when it comes to charging port doors and the manner in which they can be unlocked remotely. NaaS hasn't mentioned just how remote the process will become, as locked cars tend to lock their charging ports as well, though some can certainly be unlocked via a phone app.
The robot developed by NaaS carries its own power source, while other designs rely on existing charging or a separate robot that acts as a mobile battery."With the future popularization of self-driving vehicles, compatible automatic charging robots will become indispensable infrastructure," the company says."Intelligent and unmanned EV charging will create a whole new charging experience and open up a massive market for smart charging.
